“In June 1971, I was 16 and had been at the Glastonbury site for a few weeks watching The Pyramid Stage take shape and generally just enjoying being there.

“I was also very aware that I was looking for something, though I couldn’t put it into words. I was just certain it needed to be found. And being at Glastonbury at that particular time was definitely a part of that for me.

“The day Prem Rawat came to the festival, there was huge excitement in the crowd. Extraordinary things were being said about him, and I remember people pointing to a double rainbow in the sky as evidence that something amazing was about to happen.

“I wasn’t too sure. I felt I was looking more for an experience than for a person. But nonetheless, later, when I saw his car drive down to the side of the stage, I decided to wait around to listen to what he had to say.

“I remember he looked quite small on The Pyramid Stage, but when he spoke – although it was hard to hear because the sound was terrible – I do remember he spoke with great conviction.

“Looking back now, it was extraordinary how young he was. And how young I was! Yet I know a tiny seed was sown at Glastonbury. A few months later, when I ran into an old friend who had recently received Self-Knowledge, I remembered having seen Prem there and how I had meant to find out more – which is exactly what I did next.”
