Prem Rawat Foundation Aiding Pakistani Flood Recovery

Nov 26, 2022

The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) is helping people recover from devastating recent floods in Pakistan.

In late August, the country experienced monsoons that dropped ten times more rain than usual, leaving a third of the country under water and affecting 33 million people. The catastrophe created an ongoing shortage of food, drinking water, shelter and medical care with recovery efforts expected to continue for many months.

In response to the tragedy, TPRF provided humanitarian aid to help people recover with dignity. With the help of generous donors from around the world, TPRF has now given US$100,000 in grants to supply food, clean drinking water, medical care, hygiene kits, mosquito nets and other supplies.

TPRF gave a grant of $50,000 to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and a grant of $50,000 to World Food Program USA in support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)’s operations. As past Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Doctors Without Borders and the U.N. World Food Programme have strong track records and are recognized for their humanitarian work to strengthen public health and global food security. Both organizations are in good positions on the ground in Pakistan to help the people who need it the most.

“On behalf of the individuals we serve, we thank The Prem Rawat Foundation for its generous grant,” said Gabriella Morris, World Food Program USA Chief Philanthropy Officer. “These funds enable the U.N. World Food Programme to provide emergency food assistance in the form of food, plus cash transfers to support families impacted by the devastating flooding in Pakistan.”

The aid is possible due to the support of TPRF donors from across the globe. Last month, TPRF announced that it would give an initial grant of $50,000 and match donations from supporters dollar for dollar. Their generous response allowed TPRF to double the amount of aid it was able to give.

“What an incredible effort! Each contribution adds up to make a big difference to the victims of this horrific flooding. Your effort will be felt and appreciated by all who benefit from your kindness and generosity,” says Linda Pascotto, TPRF Board Chair.  “I thank each of you for the role you play in helping TPRF offer emergency aid and assistance to other human beings. Giving a ray of hope can make all the difference.”

Since Prem Rawat founded TPRF in 2001, it has given over 160 grants totaling over $5.7 million to a variety of partner NGOs in 40 countries to help victims of natural disasters, COVID-19 and other traumas.

The humanitarian grants are just one of the ways that TPRF fulfills its mission of advancing dignity, peace and prosperity across the globe.

TPRF’s Food for People program has provided over 4.7 million nutritious meals, clean water, and educational opportunities to underserved children and elderly adults in India, Nepal and Ghana.

TPRF also offers the Peace Education Program, an innovative series of video-based workshops that have helped over 250,000 people in over 70 countries discover their own inner strength, hope and peace.

Registered as a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, TPRF has earned the highest rankings from independent evaluator Charity Navigator for financial responsibility, transparency and accountability.
