“Life’s Essentials with Prem Rawat” podcast week 18 – Peace and the Atom Bomb, Hiroshima 75th Anniversary

Nov 18, 2022

Prem speaks on this historic occasion. He talks about the history of what happened that tragic Monday when the world changed. Most people have never experienced such an event and the younger generation is largely ignorant of it. The Enola Gay airplane lifted off and sealed the fate of the people of Hiroshima.

The plane flies early that clear morning and Hiroshima comes into sight with focus on its target. At 8:15am the bomb is dropped and the sirens blare. It takes 45 seconds to reach the Earth and detonates. The people on the ground were instantly vaporized in 4,000 degree flame. They were gone without a trace.

Prem questions what brought humanity to such a point where humans turned against humans in such an inhumane way. Each war was a progression until this point of transgression. The war began in the minds of people just like us. He uses a story about a hole to illustrate how anger, confusion, and conflict are the absence and not the presence. Peace is the presence. We cannot eliminate the negative but can add to the positive.

Within you there lies the peace. When everyone has enough for the needs there is no conflict. A vision of peace does not have to be a utopia, because utopia actually means no place. It doesn’t exist. That is not peace. Peace is all that is good in you. It is the serenity, kindness, gentleness, understanding, joy, divine, acceptance and the coming and going of the breath in you. We only need to wake up and hear the song of life that makes our heart dance.

In peace we can feel good because we have been given the greatest gift of all. Yet ignorance prevails and the bombs continue to fall. In 1945 only one country had nuclear weapons and now there are more than 9, and there has been no change. Now the leaders sit in the offices and push the buttons to give orders. No longer are they on the frontlines of war, but giving orders remotely. What happened in 1945 could easily happen again. It is sobering as there is nothing in place to prevent it from happening now. The world has not learned how to stop the conflict within and between human beings. Conflict can only be prevented by the presence of peace. We have made peace complicated by wanting what we don’t have rather than appreciating what we do have.

Prem goes on to talk about who is really in control of our lives. Our success and everything else that happens to us between the time we are born and the time we die is in our own control. Do we take that control of ourselves? Or do we look outside of ourselves for everything? What you are looking for is within you.
